Solid dies
A solid mold is a type of mold that has no shunt structure and the shape of the mold hole is similar to the cross-section of the profile. Its shape is relatively simple and mainly consists of die hole, working belt and other parts.
In the extrusion process of solid die, the molten aluminum material is extruded directly through the die hole to form solid aluminum products.
Solid die is widely used to produce solid profiles, such as aluminum bars, aluminum plates, solid tubes and so on.
It is also commonly used to produce some simple structural parts, such as connectors and supports.
Advantages of this kind of aluminum extrusion die:
- Simple structure, relatively low manufacturing cost.
- The extrusion process is stable and easy to control.
Hollow Die
Hollow die includes tongue-shaped die, plane shunt combination die and other types, and its main structural features are shunt holes, shunt bridge, welded cavity, die core, working belt and other shunt structures.
In the extrusion process, the molten aluminum material flows forward under the action of the extrusion axis. It is split into two or more metal streams through the shunt holes of the mold. These metal streams rejoin in the welding chamber and are welded into tubes or hollow profiles under high pressure vacuum.
Hollow mold is widely used to produce hollow profiles, such as automobile door frames, window frames, pipes and so on.
It is also suitable for producing some complex structural parts that require internal space.
Advantages of hollow mold:
- Capable of producing hollow profiles with complex cross-sectional shapes.
- The wall thickness and shape of the product can be flexibly controlled by adjusting the number and position of the manifold holes.
How long Do aluminum extrusion die Use？
For aluminum extrusion die, its life expectancy is generally in the use of 2~3 years after the need for replacement.
However, this is only an approximate reference figure, and the specific life span will be affected by many factors mentioned above.
Some dies may need to be replaced after less than a year of use due to severe wear and tear or damage, while others may still be in good working condition after many years of use.
