Manufacturing Process
Aluminum Extrusion
It starts with aluminum billets, which are cylindrical alloy blocks. They heat these billets until they’re soft. Then they push the soft aluminum through a shaped die. This is called extrusion and forms the complex profiles used in construction.
Key Steps in the Aluminum Extrusion Process
Heating and Extrusion
First they heat the aluminum billet to the right temperature. Once hot they place the billet in a press. The press applies pressure and pushes the aluminum through the die, shaping it into the desired profile. Direct extrusion is where the die is stationary and the billet moves. Indirect extrusion is where the die moves and shapes the billet differently.
Quenching and Cooling
After extrusion the aluminum profile needs to cool quickly to hold its shape. They use water or air cooling systems to cool the profile evenly. This ensures the profile maintains its structure. After cooling they cut the profile to length using saws or cutting tools.
Post-Extrusion Processes
