The reason why aluminium is resistant to corrosion can be summarised as follows:

1. Aluminium has a naturally occurring oxide film:

Aluminium reacts easily with oxygen in the air to form a dense film of aluminium oxide. This oxide film is extremely stable. It effectively isolates the aluminium from direct contact with the outside environment.

The thickness of the aluminium oxide film is very thin, but it is sufficient to prevent further erosion of the aluminium by moisture, oxygen and other corrosive media.

2. Chemical stability of the alumina film:

Aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) is a chemically stable compound. It is not easily damaged by corrosive media such as acids and alkalis. This enables aluminium to maintain its corrosion resistance under a wide range of environmental conditions.

3. Electrochemical properties of aluminium:

Aluminium is an active metal, but under certain conditions. Aluminium is capable of forming a passivation film on its surface, which reduces its electrochemical activity and thus slows down or prevents corrosion.

4. purity of aluminium:

The corrosion resistance of aluminium is closely related to its purity. Pure aluminium has the best corrosion resistance because pure aluminium does not contain impure substances that reduce corrosion resistance. such as iron, copper and magnesium. These impurities reduce the corrosion resistance of aluminium.

5. Surface treatments enhance corrosion resistance:

Aluminium products can further enhance their corrosion resistance through surface treatment. Anodic oxidation treatment can form a thicker and denser oxide film on the surface of aluminium, which further improves the aluminium corrode
